Punjab launches first-ever E-Taxi Scheme

1,100 electric taxis to hit the roads; online applications open until Oct 5

The Punjab government on Tuesday rolled out its first-ever E-Taxi Scheme, announcing that 1,100 electric taxis will be distributed in the initial phase to promote eco-friendly and affordable transport across the province. Citizens can apply online at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk until October 5, 2025.

Green push under Transport Vision 2030

Officials said the initiative, part of the government’s Transport Vision 2030, is designed to curb air pollution, slash fuel costs, and provide modern travel facilities. The scheme is also expected to generate jobs and improve urban mobility in Punjab’s major cities.

Financing support for EV buyers

The launch follows the provincial government’s recent financing arrangement for electric vehicles. Under the plan, banks will provide loans of up to Rs6.5 million, with the government paying the interest cost. For EVs priced between Rs4 million and Rs10 million, the government will also contribute Rs585,000 toward the down payment, while the remainder will be financed through partner banks.
