
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revealed today that it fell victim to a cyber incident, which was detected on February 16, 2024.
Following the discovery of the breach, an investigation was promptly initiated, with the collaboration of independent cybersecurity experts, to assess the extent and nature of the breach. Subsequently, remedial measures were swiftly implemented.
The investigation concluded that eleven (11) IMF email accounts were compromised during the cyber incident. Immediate actions were taken to re-secure the impacted email accounts. Thus far, there is no evidence to suggest further compromise beyond these email accounts. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
Addressing the incident, IMF emphasized its unwavering commitment to preventing and defending against cyber threats. Recognizing the inevitability of such incidents, the IMF maintains a robust cybersecurity program designed to respond swiftly and efficiently to cyber threats.
