Pak Elektron Limited (PEL), Pakistan’s leading power equipment and appliances manufacturer, is making its first major footprint in Africa by establishing a smart energy meter assembly plant in Nigeria, in partnership with a local business giant.
The move signals PEL’s ambition to tap into Africa’s rising energy demand and position itself as a key player in the continent’s push for electrification and smart grid solutions. Notably, the company is already executing a project ‘Three (3) No.132/33KV Substations’ in Nigeria.
The Nigerian partner—an influential conglomerate with operations spanning multiple sectors—is expected to provide the local infrastructure and distribution reach, while PEL brings in its technological expertise and manufacturing capabilities. The plant will produce next-generation smart electricity meters designed to enhance energy efficiency, reduce losses, and improve grid management across Nigeria’s growing power sector.
“We are expanding our customer base in the region and further establishing PEL as a trusted partner in Africa’s energy transition,” the company senior Executive told this scribe.
The foray into Africa comes at a time when utilities across the continent are turning toward digital and smart metering solutions to curb power theft, manage load, and improve billing accuracy. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, is seen as a high-growth market amid ongoing reforms in the power sector.
