UBL to Upgrade All Basic Accounts to Mukammal Current Accounts from Oct. 15

United Bank Limited (UBL) announced that it will convert all Basic Banking Accounts (BBA) into its Mukammal Current Accounts starting Wednesday, offering customers broader banking services without any action required on their part.

Existing BBA holders will automatically shift to the Mukammal product, which eliminates minimum balance requirements and initial deposits, while adding perks such as free online banking, unlimited internal fund transfers, pay orders, cheque books, and cheque clearing. Customers maintaining a year‑to‑date average balance of Rs. 25,000 or more also receive free debit cards, duplicate statements, and SMS alerts.

UBL’s BBA, known for its simplicity with no minimum balance and only Rs. 1,000 initial deposit, allows two free deposits and withdrawals per month, with extra transactions charged at Rs. 50 plus standard fees. While UBL ATMs remain free, cross‑bank ATM withdrawals incur charges — limitations largely addressed under the Mukammal upgrade.

The move follows UBL’s March 2025 merger with Silkbank, which expanded its customer base and may have accelerated the consolidation of accounts. Customers are advised to review the Mukammal terms carefully, particularly if they frequently use cross‑bank ATMs or perform multiple monthly transactions.
