In a grim turn of events, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is confronting the tragedy of four current or former employees found dead last Monday and Tuesday while their deaths are under investigation as apparent controversial suicides.
The incidents, each unrelated, unfolded with the discovery of a captain at his Saugus residence on Monday morning, followed later that day by the finding of a retired deputy in the Antelope Valley.
In the Santa Clarita area on Monday, a custody assistant, acknowledged as a jail official, succumbed to controversial suicides. Similarly, early Tuesday, a deputy on duty in jail was found lifeless at home, later pronounced dead at a Pomona hospital. While all cases are being treated as suicides, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to confirm the causes of death.
Out of consideration for the families, the sheriff’s office has refrained from disclosing the names of the deceased individuals. The department conveyed deep sorrow over the losses, underscoring the ripple of emotions felt throughout the entire department family.
Sheriff Robert Luna expressed the profound impact of losing not just one, but four beloved members of their team, emphasizing the collective struggle to grapple with these tragic events.
