Facebook Dominates the SNS market in the U.S
Facebook Has Become the Leading Social Networking Platform, Attracting Half of the Nation's Users, While Others Compete for the Rest
Utilizing social networking services (SNS) for marketing is undeniably the most effective way to grow a brand. So, every brand and business should be aware of the existing social media trends and identify the platform experiencing widespread popularity.
The latest data shows that Facebook occupied a commanding 50 percent share of all social media platforms in the United States in August 2023, followed by Instagram with 15.85 percent, and Pinterest with 14.69 percent, a report revealed. These SNS are leading the market.
In terms of user engagement, the gap between Facebook and its competitors was also considerably high. The U.S. has the third-largest social media audience globally.
Over 80% of Americans Use Mobile to Access Facebook
Notably, data revealed that Facebook’s usage patterns quickly shifted towards mobile-centric engagement. At the start of 2022, a stunning 81 percent of Facebook users worldwide used mobile phones to reach the platform. While only 1.5 percent used desktop computers and laptops.
Facebook also dominated the social media app market. Three of its products since 2021 are positioned at the top among all social networking apps in terms of downloading in the U.S.
Its core platform was led by downloads of nearly 2.5 million, its Messenger app 2.1 million, and WhatsApp with 1.4 million downloads.
Social Networking Evolves
Over the past decade, a steady increase was seen in daily time spent on social networks worldwide. Social media users spent an average of 145 minutes a day on these platforms in 2019. And something similar was the case in 2020. Preferences, however, have changed, rising for video-first social platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube. This could be a challenge to Facebook’s continued dominance.
Facebook adapts to evolving trends, staying a leader in the dynamic and competitive social media industry.
