KUFPEC and OGDCL Sign Strategic MoU for Exploration in Pakistan

Kuwait and Pakistan collaboration in Petroleum Exploration.

The Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) and the Pakistani Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) have officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying a collaborative alliance between the two energy giants.

The comprehensive MoU outlines a strategic framework for the joint assessment of potential business prospects, both within Pakistan and in international upstream projects. The agreement encompasses active participation in bid rounds, collaborative studies, the establishment of a shared pool of technical experts, and the exchange of knowledge, along with the secondment of offices.

Furthermore, the MoU grants OGDCL the opportunity to deploy its technical professionals on a reciprocal basis for secondment with KUFPEC, aiming to enhance capacity building and facilitate experience sharing.

A high-level delegation from KUFPEC, led by Tareq M. Ebrahim (EVP – Operations), visited the OGDCL head office on Wednesday. The delegation included key figures such as Ali Taha Al-Temimi (Country Head– KUFPEC, Pakistan), Bader Al-Matar (Manager Asia Region), Nawwaf AlSalem (Manager Exploration), Khaled Al-Athainah (Manager Exploration, Pakistan), and Abdul Ghafoor (Sr. Specialist Geologist, Pakistan). During the visit, the delegation engaged with Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO, and the senior management team of OGDCL.

Importantly, KUFPEC is a Joint Venture Partner with OGDCL in the Qadirpur and Makhad blocks. Both entities are committed to establishing dedicated working groups to diligently implement the objectives outlined in the MoU. Progress will be closely monitored on a quarterly basis by the leadership of both companies to ensure meaningful and effective cooperation.

In response to a recommendation from OGDCL’s MD/CEO, Tareq M. Ebrahim has agreed to organize a workshop of technical experts focusing on production optimization. This initiative seeks to leverage Kuwait’s significant progress in the field, providing Pakistan with the opportunity to benefit from their expertise.

The delegation also toured the OGDCL Seismic Data Processing Centre, acknowledging OGDCL’s prowess and leadership role in the upstream sector.

Tareq M. Ebrahim emphasized KUFPEC’s dedication to strengthening its presence in Pakistan by expanding its footprint in the Exploration and Production (E&P) sector, solidifying collaboration with OGDCL. The Kuwaiti delegation reiterated the paramount importance of Pakistan in their regional business strategy.
