OGDCL Unveils Major Crude Discovery, Achieves 1850 BPD Production Rate

The state-run Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on Monday declared the discovery of crude oil at the SONO-9 well, according to an official statement released on Monday.

Sono-9 is noteworthy as the first well to be directly completed with an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) following thorough well logging and pressure testing. The company’s statement reveals that during testing, the well demonstrated a production rate of 1850 barrels of per day (BPD) of crude oil.

OGDCL holds a 100 percent stake as the operator in Sono Development & Production Lease (D&PL), where the Sono-9 well is situated in the district of Hyderabad, Sindh.

OGDCL is actively employing cutting-edge artificial lifting technology with ESP, having equipped seven wells with this technology, resulting in a significant boost in production levels. The company underscores its commitment to production enhancement, stating, “We are pleased to share that the development well Sono-9 in Sono Development & Production Lease (D&PL) has been successfully tested, completed, and brought into the production stream using OGDCL’s in-house expertise.” The well was drilled to a depth of 2350 meters, targeting the hydrocarbon potential in the Upper Sand (1B) of the Lower Goru formation.
