PSO, ISGS, FWO Consortium Signs MoU for White Oil Pipeline
Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Inter State Gas Systems Pvt. Ltd (ISGS) and the military-owned Frontier Works Organization on Wednesday formed a consortium and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Machike-Thallian-Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline Project.
The signing ceremony took place at the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) Secretariat, PM Office. Present at the event were Minister for Power and Petroleum Muhammad Ali, Secretary (Petroleum Division) Momin Agha, and Secretary SIFC Jameel Qureshi.
Leading figures of the consortium entities, including MD Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Syed Muhammad Taha, DG Frontier Works Organization (FWO) Major General Abdul Sami, and MD Inter State Gas Systems Pvt. Ltd (ISGS) Nadeem Bajwa, signed the historic MoU.
The project, known as the Machike-Thallian-Taru Jabba White Oil Pipeline (MTT-WOP), underscores the dedication of the Petroleum Division and the SIFC.
It aims to complement the existing oil pipeline backbone from Karachi to Peshawar, ensuring efficient transportation of petroleum products, preventing adulteration, and enhancing safety measures.
Spanning 427 kilometers, the pipeline will connect Punjab from Machike, near Lahore, to Tarujabba, near Peshawar, through three segments: Machike-Chakpirana, Chakpirana to Rawat, and Rawat to Tarujabba.
This flagship project, led by FWO and supported by PSO and ISGS, is expected to initially carry six million metric tons per annum (MTPA) of petroleum products, facilitating a smoother supply chain from Karachi to Peshawar. Additionally, it is anticipated to significantly reduce traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and transportation costs.
Tankers transport oil products from Machike northward, disregarding road safety laws, causing traffic congestion, and highway damage due to the absence of an axle load policy. With Punjab and KPK jointly demanding 74 percent of the nation’s oil, timely pipeline development is crucial.
