Pakistan is set to launch joint insulin production with Russia in a bid to curb reliance on costly imports and expand access to essential medicines, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said after chairing a high-level meeting with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and Russian officials on Thursday.
The project, backed by Russian government representative Denis Nazarov, will establish local manufacturing facilities in phases, with bulk production and technology transfer expected within three years. Officials said the venture could open new opportunities for foreign investment and deepen bilateral ties between Islamabad and Moscow.
Khan, speaking alongside senior officials from the industries ministry and DRAP, called the move “a foundation for a new era of business cooperation,” adding that compliance and technology transfer from partner firms would be critical to the project’s success.
