Pakistan Accuses Israel of Treading ‘Path of Pharaohs’ with Child Killings in Gaza
Caretaker Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar strongly condemned Israel’s war on Gaza on Thursday, particularly the killing of Palestinian children. He drew a parallel to the biblical story of the “pharaohs” who, on the eve of Prophet Moses’ birth, ordered the killing of children, Geo Television reported.
Kakar’s remarks were delivered during the 16th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
He demanded an immediate halt to Israel’s war on Gaza, stating, “Unfortunately, the people who claim to be the followers of [Prophet] Moses are following the path of pharaohs.”
He insisted all ECO member states immediately rally behind Palestinians, stop the cessation of violence, and encourage the humanitarian corridor to help the “unfortunate” and “defenseless” people of Palestine.
“The incessant and lethal bombardments of Gaza by the Israeli forces is a deplorable act, which calls for international condemnation. This issue needs to be addressed in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) resolutions.”
PM Kakar urged ECO member states to push for a Gaza ceasefire, endorse the provision of humanitarian assistance, and collaborate to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
The prime minister also addressed the situation of Kashmiris in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), asserting that the Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions.
PM Kakar Recognizes Afghanistan’s Regional Significance
During the summit, PM Kakar acknowledged Afghanistan’s pivotal regional role and Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with ECO member states for peace, prosperity, and connectivity in Afghanistan. He highlighted strategic investments and connectivity projects, emphasizing their regional importance.
Furthermore, PM Kakar announced the establishment of a Special Investment Facilitation Council in Pakistan, focused on fostering multi-domain cooperation in sectors like agriculture, defense production, information technology, energy, and mining. He stressed the council’s role in providing direction and ensuring policy continuity.
The prime minister emphasized vast investment opportunities in Pakistan and urged increased commercial activities in the ECO region, emphasizing the importance of trade corridors for regional development.
On the summit’s sidelines, PM Kakar met with Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev, discussing bilateral cooperation, regional issues, and progress in trade, defense, and energy relations. He welcomed direct flight operations from Azerbaijan to Pakistan, fostering people-to-people exchanges and business opportunities.
They also addressed shared challenges such as Islamophobia and climate change, recognizing ECO’s role in promoting regional cooperation and prosperity, and expressing their commitment to addressing global issues.
