ChatGPT’s Groundbreaking Update: It Can Now ‘See, Hear and Speak’

ChatGPT services are to undergo a significant upgrade. It will bring it closer to the realm of artificial intelligence “assistants” like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google’s voice assistant.

OpenAI has announced that the upcoming update is set to be rolled out to Plus and Enterprise subscribers over the next two weeks. It will introduce the capability for users to engage in voice conversations with ChatGPT and even communicate with it through images, as reported by The Guardian. As CNBC aptly puts it, “OpenAI’s ChatGPT can now ‘see, hear and speak,’ or, at the very least, comprehend spoken words, respond with a synthetic voice, and process images.”

ChatGPT services are being updated and more are to be added in the near future. OpenAI envisions a range of practical applications for these enhanced features. For instance, users will be able to snap a photo of the contents of their refrigerator or pantry and then seek ChatGPT’s culinary suggestions, complete with step-by-step recipe guidance. Furthermore, after enjoying a meal, OpenAI suggests that you can capture an image of your child’s math homework and turn to the chatbot for helpful hints.

This update arrives amidst a competitive race among tech companies to refine their AI tools, as reported by TechCrunch and Mashable. Google, for instance, is gearing up to introduce a ChatGPT challenger named Gemini. Amazon is making strategic investments in an AI startup known as Anthropic. Microsoft, a prior investor in OpenAI, has expanded its Bing search engine with the addition of visual search capabilities. Interestingly, Meta has unveiled a tool to generate music through AI.
